AS Philosophers begin their study of the ‘Philosophy of Art.’ We are taking a look at the views of Plato and Brian Sewell, quite a combination!
Speaking on the subject of creative work Shri Shantananda Saraswati, said that a work of art should contain both “a message from the Absolute and a smile from the Absolute”. The message is what the work of art is saying to the viewer. The smile we have considered to be all that the laws and principles of art can give through the skill of the artist. This concept of both a message and a smile has proved both interesting and stimulating. It causes the artist to expand into new ways of working.
