This summer, Debate Chamber is holding an interactive three-day course in diplomacy and international affairs for students aged 15-18.
At the Young Diplomats Conference Summer 2010 students will join a team representing one of the major powers at an international summit. They will hear talks on a number of global economic, social, military and environmental issues and work in groups to propose solutions acceptable to all nations.
Delegates will receive instructions from their governments and conduct informal negotiations to cut deals and forge alliances. At the summit itself all delegates have the chance to debate and make speeches. They will need to use skills of strategy and persuasion to reach a solution acceptable to their government, their people and the international community – before it’s too late.
Throughout the conference delegates will have to adapt quickly to complex and evolving crisis scenarios, using teamwork and initiative to resolve disputes as they unfold. The chance to explore global politics and economics through debate and discussion makes the Young Diplomats Conference Summer 2010 ideal for anyone planning to study Politics, International Relations or PPE at university.
For anybody with an eye on a career in the politics or the Diplomatic Service, the conference features workshops on negotiation skills and the opportunity to learn about the real world of international diplomacy.
