Fair university admissions

Richard Cairns, Head Master of Brighton College (pictured above), has had a letter published in the Times today. He writes: “Rather than ‘lowering the bar’ for poorer students applying to university, would it not be more sensible to ensure that those from socio-economically disadvantaged families secure the A-level grades that universities actually require?” The Times also features a letter from Professor Michael Collins, Pye Fellow in Mathematics at University College, Oxford. David Willetts MP has responded to an article in the Telegraph. More can be found here.
